A Level company - serving Jersey City, NJ

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown in Jersey City: What to Know First

HeatShield cap and crown work in Jersey City typically runs $425-$1,850 depending on whether we’re sealing a crown, replacing a cap, or doing both on a multi-flue setup. Most HeatShield jobs take one visit, and we carry the common parts on the truck. As an independent HeatShield service provider, we’re not authorized by the manufacturer, but we’ve serviced their products across Jersey City for years and we know exactly where they fail. If you own a home with a HeatShield system and you’re seeing water stains near the fireplace, rust streaks on the crown, or a cap that’s come loose, call (862) 272-3868. We’ll get you a written price before anything gets touched.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield is best known for their refractory parging systems and joint repair products. Their caps and crowns hold up, but we see the same failure patterns repeat across Jersey City chimneys. Here’s what actually happens on the roof, and what we do about it.

  • HeatShield Cerfractory crown wash cracks at the bond line. The crown coating HeatShield applies over a masonry crown expands and contracts at a slightly different rate than the underlying concrete. After five or six Jersey City winters with freeze-thaw cycles off the Hudson, hairline cracks open where the coating meets the original crown. Our fix: we grind the seam, apply a compatible flexible sealant, and recoat the crown to prevent water from getting under the Cerfractory layer.
  • Standard single-flue HeatShield caps lose their mounting screws. The factory hardware on HeatShield’s standard stainless caps is decent but not marine-grade. Salt air pushing inland from the harbor accelerates corrosion on the set screws and mounting brackets. We swap them for 316 stainless hardware and add a bead of high-temp silicone at the base, which keeps the cap seated through nor’easters without compromising the manufacturer’s design.
  • Multi-flue HeatShield caps with custom-cut side panels start channeling water. Multi-flue caps rely on precise side-panel fitment. On older Jersey City brownstones where the crown has settled unevenly, a gap opens between the cap’s side panel and the crown surface. Rain runs down the gap and pools at the base of the flue liner. We fabricate a new side panel or add a custom drip edge, then re-bed the cap in a full perimeter seal. It’s a one-hour fix that prevents a soaked flue liner.
  • HeatShield liners with a damaged top plate show rust at the throat. The top plate that anchors a HeatShield liner to the crown is usually the first component to show rust, especially on the river-facing side of the house. If the plate has thinned, cap stability is compromised. We inspect the plate with the camera, measure the material thickness, and replace it with an OEM HeatShield plate or a heavier-gauge aftermarket equivalent when the OEM is backordered.
  • Older HeatShield systems predate the current cap design. HeatShield changed their cap specs about eight years ago. Homes where the system was installed before that often have caps that don’t interlock cleanly with the newer crown coating materials. We stock adapter kits and retrofit brackets so an older HeatShield system can take a current cap without tearing out the crown work.

The camera doesn’t negotiate. Neither does creosote. Every one of these fixes starts with a camera scan so you see what we see before you approve a dollar of work.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Here’s what a typical HeatShield cap and crown job looks like from first call to final photo.

  1. 1
Call or text (862) 272-3868. A live person answers. We ask for your address, your chimney type, and what you’re seeing. We’ll also ask if you have any prior inspection reports or photos.
  2. 2
We schedule and confirm with a text. You get a named technician, a license number on file, and a text when we’re on the way. No waiting windows.
  3. 3
Camera goes down the flue first. Before we touch the cap or crown, we run the NFPA 211 Level 2 camera scan. You see the footage. We point out exactly what’s failing and what can wait.
  4. 4
Written scope, written price, written warranty. We hand you a line-item quote before any work starts. Parts are specified: OEM HeatShield where it matters, quality aftermarket where it doesn’t. No vague lines, no “misc.” charges.
  5. 5
The repair or replacement happens. Crown work, cap installation, custom fabrication for odd-sized flues - done in one visit in most cases. We keep the roof clean and tarp the fireplace opening inside.
  6. 6
Final camera pass and photo record. We re-scan the flue after the work is complete. You get before and after photos, plus a written warranty. The whole record is archived under Haven Standard Clause 4, the same documentation standard we’ve kept since 2009.

What HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Jersey City

Here are honest ranges for the HeatShield cap and crown work we do most often. These are Jersey City market prices as of 2025, not national averages.

  • Crown reseal and Cerfractory patch: $425-$650. Includes crack grinding, sealant, and a compatible crown coating.
  • Single-flue HeatShield cap replacement (standard stainless): $475-$725 installed, depending on flue size and hardware condition.
  • Full crown rebuild with crown coat: $1,400-$1,850. Required when the underlying masonry crown has crumbled past the point of patching.
  • Multi-flue cap with custom side panels: $1,100-$1,600, depending on span and panel material.
  • HeatShield liner top plate replacement (including cap re-bed): $600-$900.

What moves the price: roof access difficulty (steep pitch, high elevation, parapet walls on older Jersey City rowhouses), flue count, and whether the existing cap is reusable. Call (862) 272-3868 for an exact written quote. Estimates are free, and we send them to you in writing.

Why Jersey City Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Jersey City for HeatShield Work

Most chimney companies in Jersey City will cap your flue and move on. We work to a different standard, and it’s written down. Every HeatShield cap and crown job includes a camera scan, a written price before work starts, and a documented photo record when we’re done. If it’s not done right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we make it right. No fine print, no call-back runaround. Our techs are background-checked, uniformed, and they know HeatShield’s product line well enough to tell you when an aftermarket part will do the same job for less. If you have another brand in the mix, we handle DuraFlex and Gelco components too, so we’re not going to sell you a whole system replacement because we only stock one manufacturer. Corrine Halstead, our owner, started running inspections in Jersey City years ago and she still reviews the camera footage on every HeatShield job we book. You’re not getting a trainee with a clipboard. You’re getting a named tech, a written price, and the footage to prove the fix.
